Abstract :
The continued exponential growth of packet based network traffic has necessitated the upgrading of the networking infrastructure that operates at the data line rates of 40/100 Gbs. Multimedia services, such as high-definition video, online gaming, distance learning, social networking phenomenon and need to transfer large scale data across the globe are some of the drivers. Standards organizations such as ITU-T, IEEE, OIF, IETF have developed various standards and recommendations for 40/100 Gb/s data rates. This paper highlights the enhancements made to the ITU-T´s G.709, Optical Transport Network (OTN) standard.
