Abstract :
An important part of the costs of switchgear is already consumed in its development and construction and the success of new switchgear depends very much upon the time to market. Additionally, high quality requirements lead to a number of expensive development tests to prove the reliability and security of a new product. But today, modern CAE tools offer an effective instrument to reduce the costs of development, the time to market and the number of tests. The successful development of new switchgear requires an early verification of the physical properties of operation. The use of computer simulation already in the early concept phase is an important method, e.g. in order to verify the current carrying capacity
