Abstract
Transmission lines are important element of a power system utilized for transfer of real and reactive power from generators to consumers. Power line losses are directly related to the distance of the line, the load demand current flow through it and the impedance of the wire. Nowadays with large industrial and domestic expansions worldwide the need for strategically placed reactive reserves arises. This paper describes the development of single line as well as system Power loss equations based on the active and reactive power equations of a two port network model. The equations are verified through comparison of mathematical solution and simulation results. The equations are proven to be representative of the system losses.
