Abstract :
Several schemes and control techniques have been proposed in active power filtering this last years, often assuming that all components are well sized, or at least do not affect the control algorithm performance. The first step in designing an active filter is to select suitable values. This allows reducing costs and avoids a lot of control problems. This paper deals with design, simulation and experimentation of a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) to improve power quality. After recalling and comparing some methods already developed in the literature, a design procedure of a 20 KVA SAPF is presented. Afterwards, the study of the impact of parameters on signals quality is discussed. Controlling capacitor DC voltage and mains current with fixed carrier PWM in d-q frame, simulated and experimental results provided for proving parameters choice and demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
