Abstract
DG (Distributed Generation) generally consists of electricity generation in place of consumption but sometimes it refers to technologies that use the renewable energies for power generation. What is generally accepted, is that the DGs, regardless of how they produce electricity, are relatively small and are directly connected to the distribution network. Today, the increase of electricity demand, restructuring of power systems and moving towards power market and economic and environmental problems of large power plants make DGs find a special position. This article first discusses the advantages of using DG and then according to various factors of worldwide trend for using DG, points to the necessity of DG development in I.R. Iran, and finally the proposed guidelines for the development of DG in I.R. Iran are presented.
