A commitment calculator for maximising revenue in third generation mobile communication systems

This paper discusses the operation of a ´commitment calculator´, which will be able to estimate the commitment a network operator can give to an incoming user in a contract based system. The commitment calculator will also be able to price the service based on the commitment. In this way the network operator can maximize the revenue it can generate from a contract based system. Emphasis here is on EGPRS (Enhanced General Packet Radio Service) which can support multimedia services over a packet switched network due to its capability of offering high data rates. However, the concept of commitment, and also of commitment calculator, is not affected by the air interface in use.
