Abstract
An analysis of multiple-step discontinuities for a shielded three-layer coplanar waveguide (CPW) based on the mode-matching technique is presented. The analyzed step discontinuities are general: the center strip width, the ground plane, or both can be varied, and changes can be made symmetrically or asymmetrically. There is a good agreement between the scattering (S) parameters of a CPW single-step discontinuity calculated using this analysis and those published previously. Calculated results for double- and triple-step discontinuities are presented. The convergence behavior of S-parameters for various discontinuities is also investigated. The analysis developed here should be very useful for the design of CPW-based MICs (microwave integrated circuits) and MMICs (monolithic MICs).<>
