To examine the effective leadership behavior for improving employee engagement (task focus, vigor, initiative participation, internalized value, efficacy, and positive persistence) in China hotel industry, the total of 354 samples are collected from full-time employees in 5 service hotels in China by Multiple Employee Engagement Inventory (MEEI) and Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Results indicated that both transformational and transactional leadership styles positively predict aspects of engagement, but that transformational leadership, the more effective style, has greater predictive strength. Contingent rewarding of transactional leadership is a significant predictor of employee vigor. Intellectual stimulation of transformational leadership is a significant predictor of efficacy and task focus in employee engagement.
