Abstract
This paper presents a branch and bound method that used to determine the optimal configuration of composite power system expansion planning. The optimal expansion of generations and transmission lines are obtained by referring to the minimum total cost. The summation of investment cost for new generators and transmission lines, operation cost of generating system and also the expected customer interruption cost (ECOST) is described as the total cost. The composite power system reliability evaluation is performed by referring to the ECOST. ECOST is obtained by considering generators and transmission lines outages. Load curtailment is performed when power flow violates its MW limit due to the occurrence of component outages. The minimum total cost shows that a reasonable amount of investment and operating cost of a system is obtained while maintaining the reliability of a system. A 24-bus IEEE reliability test system (RTS) is used to illustrate the robustness of the method in determining the optimal composite power system expansion planning.
