Abstract
In this paper we propose ASSRA (Alternative Shared Self-healing Ring Algorithm) as a mechanism that provides protection capacity assignment in Optical Networks, employing in parallel different restoration techniques. The anticipated outcome of this work is to examine the influence and the behaviour of the ASSRA in respect to several restoration scenarios.
