Abstract
Proven natural gas reserves are identified through continuous development of knowledge of geological models. The geological setting is the basis of reserves, and knowledge of geological models is a determining factor. The improvement of exploration techniques is a controlling factor, and the market demand is a stimulus. Exploration work required for discovery is a necessary factor, and Government policies and leadership decisions such as investment and taxes are all important factors. Full knowledge of major factors influencing the increase of proven reserves will help decision makers to better understand the exploration development cycle, to fully appreciate any new problems occurring through exploration processes, to increase their ability to forsee future development trends, and therefore help to make exploration policies.
