Abstract :
Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectra of untreated and corona-treated low-density polyethylene (LDPE) have been studied after hydration and corona charging. The bulk spectra show no significant changes whereas the ATR spectra reveal significant changes in absorption in the 720-730 cm/sup -1/ doublet after corona charging. It is suggested that corona charging provides chain scissions in the surface layers of the polymer.<>
