Abstract :
The performance of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) maximal ratio combining (MRC) systems in Rayleigh fading channels is investigated in this paper. The new exact closed-form expressions for the average bit error rate (BER) of coherent M-ary orthogonal and biorthogonal signals are derived. A simple and accurate approximate solution for the average BER of coherent M-ary orthogonal signals is also presented. Numerical results are presented to verify the accuracy of the solution. The approximate solution can be used to compute the average BER of M-ary orthogonal signals for MIMO MRC systems.
