Abstract
A new structure of a shortened antenna operating at around 400 MHz is presented. The shortened monopole antenna using a step change line is printed on Duroid with a dielectric constant /spl epsi/r = 2.2 /spl plusmn/ 0.02 and thickness t = 0.8 /spl plusmn/ 0.02 mm. A shortening ratio of 51% is achieved. A simple analysis based on the transmission line model applied to printed dipole antennas, and the Babinet principle make it possible to optimize easily the geometry and the choice of ratio of the size of lines. The calculated results on input impedance are validated by experiment.<>
