Abstract
In comparison to the traditional manual measurement of the light leakage degree of piston rings. A new detection method of light seal degree (LSD) based on CCD image sensors is presented. The features of CCD are deeply analyzed in this paper. The similarities and differences between the area array CCD imaging plan and the linear CCD scanning plan are discussed in the detection of LSD of a piston ring. Finally, it is pointed out that the area array CCD which could collect single image is used in the light leakage measurement approach and the data of light leakage are matched around a circle. The highly reliability of this approach, for determining whether the light leakage of piston rings is qualified, has been proved by the repetitive experiments. What´s more, the most practical application of this work is it provides a solid foundation for the non-contact online detection of light leakage of piston rings.
