Abstract :
The authors extend the work of T. Cwik (1990) by investigating the problem of plane-wave scattering from a multilayered dielectric-magnetic circular cylinder which is covered with a double periodic conformal array of perfectly conducting (PEC) patch elements. An electric field integral equation (EFIE) is formulated in terms of the currents on the conformal elements. By decomposing the incident plane wave into cylindrical harmonics and constructing a separate EFIE for each incident harmonic, it is possible to confine the unknowns to a single periodic cell. These EFIEs are formulated in terms of Green´s function for the cylindrically layered medium, are expressed in the spectral domain and are solved by the method of moments using the Galerkin testing procedure. Some representative results are presented to illustrate the usefulness of the technique discussed. Numerical studies have demonstrated that the monostatic radar cross section of a PEC cylinder which is coated with several layers of absorbing dielectric material can be reduced considerably by loading the structure with a doubly periodic array of suitably chosen PEC elements.<>
