Abstract :
Summary form only given. The “micro Newton Radiofrequency IonThruster” (µN-RIT)1 is a very promising candidate for a high precision positioning of spacecrafts. In this type the plasma is produced in a cylindrical vessel by a surrounding coil. Afterwards the created ions are accelerated by an extraction grid system consisting of hexagonal arranged holes. The achieved kinetic energy of the ions is up to a few keV. The typical gas pressure in such a system is in the range of 10−3 Pa. Due to the low particle interaction the usual tool to describe the plasma is the Particle in Cell method (PIC)2.
