  • Abstract
The fourteen papers in this special section provides an overview of some of the leading current research themes in validation of computational electromagnetics. Over the last two decades, the power of affordable computing has dramatically increased. In addition to computational horsepower, the capabilities of available electromagnetic simulation packages have improved. Hence, there has been a significant increase in the reliance on numerical modeling in electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity design and analysis. Such increased reliance makes it vital to be able to demonstrate that the models provide a reasonable simulation of the system being modeled. In 2008, the IEEE Standard 1597.1 was published that provided the first ever approach to formalized validation of computer modeling. Since that time, there has been an increase in interest in validation and more research on the methods and applications of formalized validation.
