Abstract :
The authors present the query language SQL++ used in the O-Raid object-oriented database system. SQL++ is an extension to the relational query language SQL that adds object-oriented capabilities. It supports object-oriented database capabilities such as subobject referencing, method invocation, navigational queries, and `implicit joins´ while maintaining the relational capabilities and closure property of SQL. SQL++ also has an application program interface that solves the `impedance mismatch´ problem for C++ application programs, allowing them to store and retrieve objects in the database without the need to translate from one data format to another
