Abstract
An 8-shot injector for H and D pellets built at Riso National Laboratory has been installed on the RFX reverse field pinch. The paper presents the design and performance of the system. The specifications for pellet masses, velocities and injection angles are based on a study performed with a pellet ablation code on a set of injection scenarios in RFX. The injector produces by in-situ condensation 8 pellets with masses of 1.5+5·1020 atoms and pneumatically accelerates them with H gas at velocity of 0.5+1.5 km/s. The poloidal inclination of the injector is adjustable in a range 1.7°+12° so that the pellets can be aimed at the plasma center or up to 16 cm off-axis. Bench tests of the injector showed good agreement with the specified performance, with mass and speed reproducibility better than 10% and 3% respectively, less than 0.1% of broken pellets and a launch angle spread <5 mrad
