Abstract :
There is a rapidly growing demand to represent 3D physical objects in digital form, which has been applied extensively in product design, virtual reality, digital media etc. After reviewing the state-of-the-art reverse modeling techniques, the two methodologies of classical surfacing based on typical procedure of point-curve- surface and rapid surfacing based on polygonized mesh grids are presented. The basic fundamentals and different steps involved in these two methodologies are described. And combined with case study, the advantages and limitations of the reverse modeling methodologies are analyzed and compared. Finally the further development for reverse modeling is also given.
