Abstract :
Tristar is an automatic incident detection system based on image processing techniques. Images are provided to the system by video cameras monitoring the traffic along the motorways. Outputs are alarms triggered when an incident is detected or traffic measurement values. The system is also known as the local module of the INVAID System. Tristar is an issue of the DRIVE I project named INVAID. It is also one of the two key-components of the INVAID II project of the DRIVE II programme; the other one is the Central System developed by OCT. The Tristar system has been evaluated mainly in 3 places: A8 near Nice (Site S1), A43 near Lyon in France (Site S2), Antwerp Ring in Belgium (Site S3). Field trials have been supported and led by the motorway companies in charge of these networks: Escota in Nice, Area in Lyon, the Department of Transport in Antwerp. This paper reports and discusses the results obtained during field trials carried out in these three test-beds
