Abstract :
Methods used in the analysis of piezoelectric transducers for high-frequency applications are discussed. The influence of mechanical and electrical loading on transducers constructed from PZT (lead zinc titanate) and PVDF (poly(vinylidene fluoride)) are evaluated in the time domain. Frequency-domain information is acquired by the use of a fast Fourier transform algorithm. The effects of excitation/reception circuitry on a transducer operated in its thickness mode are also studied. The results are compared with theoretical simulation plots, calculated using Z-transform techniques
