Abstract :
A quantitative theory of the effect of electron multiple scattering on the ionization at and near a plane interface between different media is developed. The authors used pn-junction and electret measurements. The pn junction permits measurement of the relative variations of forward and backward emissions in the transition region, as they are functions of the interface distance and the adjacent environment. Measurements were made of the relative ionization at several points during irradiation, which enables the authors to calculate the forward, backward, and the backscatter coefficient b at any point. Consequently, they calculate the ionization at any point and prove that it depends on both environment and distance
