Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Many of the considerations for comparing AC and DC drive systems for paper machines are discussed. A procedure for making an economic evaluation between the two technologies is presented. Two evaluation examples are discussed. Areas of comparison include: system purchase price, spare parts costs, motor cooling factors, cable costs, power factor corrections, harmonic generation, system efficiency, maintenance, and space requirements
