Abstract
This paper proposes a novel iterative decoding scheme based on stopping criterion for BICM-ID embedded turbo codes. It can yield good BER performance with lower complexity. The iterations between the components in the receiver are required to be carefully scheduled to achieve a good performance and complexity trade-off. The stopping criterion based on CE has been used for the simple scheme (CE scheme) to reduce the complexity. However, the BER performance has been degraded. In order to achieve better BER performance than the CE scheme while the complexity is lower than the simple scheme, after the iteration has been stopped by the stopping criterion, turbo iterative scheme will be used for the rest numbers of iterations. Simulation results confirm that the iterative receiver with this novel scheme has achieved the similar performance with the simple scheme but it is of a considerably reduced complexity due to the decreased number of decoding. Better coding gains up to 0.1 dB can be achieved than CE scheme.
