Abstract
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is currently attracting a lot of research interest within the fiber-optic community and a large number of scientific papers has been devoted to theoretically and experimentally investigate the performance of this technology. This paper focuses on the optical implementation of the Fourier transform and gives a comparison between OFDM and optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) systems. The design guidelines of a coherent planar OFDM receiver are also provided.
