Abstract :
A 2 m-diameter prototype solar concentrator has been designed to demonstrate the level of technology required for future space applications. The issues addressed in the design are the attainment of high concentration ratio, high solar reflectivity and low weight. The design was based on the proven concept of the Sunflower solar concentrator of the 1960s because of the latter´s advanced development. The design goals are discussed, the concept is described in detail, and the critical technology issues that must be addressed are identified
