Abstract :
A design has been formulated for an antireflection (AR) coating for use on the outside surface of solar cell covers and other devices. It is superior in both environmental durability and optical performance to the single-layer MgF2 which has been used for this purpose in the past. It cannot be degraded by atomic oxygen since it consists entirely of stoichiometric oxide materials which have already been space qualified. Theoretical calculations show that the output of a silicon cell with this AR coating on a silica cover can be increased by about 0.5% over that of a cover with a single-layer AR coating
