Abstract :
All-Optical Networking (AON) is a promising candidate for the future Internet, regarding both core- and metro networks. In order to enable AON in an inter-domain scenario, special attention must be given to the interoperability between two or more intra-domain AONs. In this position paper we propose a novel approach to interconnect two Wavelength Routed Optical Networks (WRONs) by using an Optical Packet Switch (OPS). The proposed approach is outlined and compared to an alternative scenario of interconnecting WRONs using an Optical Cross Connect (OXC). Future research topics in this direction are outlined.
