Abstract :
The development and testing of a pressure surge accumulator (PSA) suitable for field installation on high pressure fluid filled pipe cable circuits is described. A prototype full stop joint was designed and built for Con Edison. Pressure surge testing was performed on the complete joint to assure that the design would withstand the pressure surges developed during an electrical fault. Test results show that installation of PSAs will reduce the electrical fault pressure surge to a level low enough to prevent the pothead porcelain from rupturing
