Abstract :
Coarse and fine search methods for the automatic recognition and high-precision measurement of closely spaced sinusoidal signals are described. The application of the methods to field-strength and frequency measurements of radio-frequency signals is considered. The false-alarm rate and detection probability are calculated for the coarse search. The bias and variance of the fine-search algorithm are obtained using sensitivity functions. Significant improvement of system performance was achieved by the coarse-search (automatic signal identification) and fine-search (reduction of measuring time vs. increased accuracy) algorithms.<>
