Abstract :
Application of Wavelet Transform to locate the fault in a transmission line is well known. In this paper a comparative study of locating different kind of faults, namely arc, open circuit, short circuit and high impedance faults on different transmission line models is presented. Effect of lossy ground condition with various soil resistivities on frequency dependent line models is also investigated. Simulation on a 400-kV power transmission system is carried out using ATP/EMTP. The current signals measured at both ends of system are utilized for the study. Wavelet Toolbox in MATLAB is used for obtaining Wavelet Transform coefficients. It is expected that understanding the behavior of the various transmission line models will help researchers to choose a right one for their study.
