Abstract
The Global Hydrology and Climate Center (GHCC) consists of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center´s ES41/Earth Systems Science Division, University Space Research Association and University of Alabama in Huntsville. A few researchers at GHCC and the microwave group of the Earth Systems Science Division, in particular, collaborated with Alabama A and M University in proposing hydrology, soil climatology and remote sensing studies by establishing a Minority University Research Center (MURC). The proposal was funded for FY95 to FY99 and the authors currently are in the first two years´ planning and implementation phases. The microwave remote sensing of land surface soil moisture is one element of the research program
