Abstract :
An overview of a large utility´s experience in upgrading transmission lines is presented. Included are discussions of the reasons and methods for upgrading. Also included are the advantages, disadvantages, and relative costs of upgrading versus constructing new transmission lines. The utility´s experience is illustrated by describing four upgrading projects where voltage was increased. The first three projects have been completed and the fourth is under construction
