Abstract :
Digital video editing solutions have developed from the stage where they were used to just create nonprofessional, small stamp-size video clips to become an important step in the high end digital broadcast video production process. The authors explore compressed domain editing for MPEG encoded multiplexed streams. They have designed an efficient indexing scheme which accelerates random access and also provides multiple access indices into MPEG streams. They also present an innovative algorithm for editing of MPEG program and transport streams, and for inserting special effects in the compressed domain itself. Finally they present an architecture for a Visual Asset Management System (VAMS) which enhances the functionality of the editing application to provide a complete video archival and management system
