Abstract :
For a time-division multiple access (TDMA) radio link design, analytical performance results for three time-slot management algorithms which could be used on the uplink are presented. The combined traffic and radio model, as implemented in the MULTICALL (multiple call simulation) program of concurrent digital portable radio access, has provided a test bed for time-slot management algorithms and radio link protocol designs that would otherwise only be possible in a full-scale prototype of a system. It is shown that under heavy traffic load a quality-measurement-based assignment of time-slots yields large improvements in transmission quality without necessitating any additional radio hardware
