Abstract :
The paper presents how a brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM) may substitute the wound rotor induction machine as a variable speed synchronous condenser. Firstly a brief presentation of the machine operation is made. Then some characteristics of the system are presented. Finally the application of the BDFM in controlling the voltage in a test system is explored.
