Abstract :
With the scales of systems are larger and larger gradually, it is necessary to research brittleness of complex system. Brittleness theory is basic theory to research basic characteristics of complex system brittleness. On the basis of researching brittleness of complex system, the lingual description and mathematic definition of brittleness are given separately. Based on the definition of brittleness source and brittleness receiver, the brittleness relevance is presented and three regulations are given due to it. Meanwhile, the method of establishing brittleness potential function is given. Basic properties of brittleness are given in the light of its mathematic description. Two brittleness critical points sets are defined by using catastrophe theory.
