Abstract
The use of small static compensators for the control of voltage on single-phase distribution feeders is investigated. A candidate feeder system is examined to determine the size and type of reactive compensation required. The single-phase design of a thyristor switched capacitor type compensator is compared with an advanced gate-turn off (GTO) thyristor voltage source inverter type of compensator. The advantages of the three-phase advanced compensator are not evident in the single-phase design
