Abstract
Introduction of fan-cooled rectifiers into large centralized telecommunication power supply systems is a logical consequence of continuing evolution of general environment to world-wide politics, economy and industry. The paper emphasises that forced cooling does not impair the system availability. The means to achieve this is redundancy, load sharing and fan supervision. Controllers with self-diagnosis and state-of-the-system-monitoring routines enhance user-friendliness and decrease operation expenses. The initial acquisition costs are kept low by the modular concept allowing the plant to grow as the load demand increases. Modularity also permits component cost reduction by standardization and provides flexibility in realizing systems meeting different local specifications and requirements
