Abstract :
Summary form only given. The paper deals with the generation and transport of a sub-microsecond intense ion beam with Z>1. The primary storage (5-stage Marx), operating at 220 kV, provides a 4 kJ energy flow into a magnetically insulated diode (MID) with ballistic focusing and an inductive plasma source. A post-cathode toroidal magnetic lens, in combination with an axial B-field solenoid, provide transport of the ion beam to distances ges1 m with densities of ~10 A/cm2. The first results on accelerator operation and its characterization, including an analysis of beam output parameters and the separation of the ion fraction with Z>1, will be discussed
