Abstract :
Open-short-load (OSL) compensations are the most popular correcting technique used in impedance measurement instruments for minimizing measurement errors before outputting the final results. This paper presents a practical OSL compensation model for a new developed bipolar bioimpedance spectrometer (BIS) system. The experiment shows that after the OSL compensation, the mean error of impedance magnitudes is reduced from the original relative error of 2.9% to 0.88% and the mean error of impedance phases is reduced from the original absolute error of 2.5 degree to 0.24 degree over 32 frequency points in the range from 10kHz to 1MHz. The compensation result validates the performance of the proposed OSL compensation model and demonstrates that the OSL compensation method with a proper compensation model can improve the effective measurement accuracy of an instrument.
