Abstract :
In the past few years, several power-related problems have isolated large portions of the telephone network. More prudent design work might have mitigated or eliminated these failures. This paper explores several means of building fault-tolerance into the telecommunication network power plant. Also included are ideas for portable equipment which can be connected to the power bus quickly and cheaply to provide a safe work-around while maintenance activities are performed. Accordingly, a fault in the equipment being serviced is less likely to affect the network
