Abstract :
The most important problem for patients suffering from paralysis or tracheotomy is their lack of communication with others. As they cannot communicate, we tend to miss important signs from patients. Possibly they feel isolated and are suffering from mental stress. The aim of this study is to develop a communication tool by using blinking patterns without any adhesive sensor. In this study, we have developed a system to detect patients´ blinking using a visual sensing system, whose principle is the real-time subtraction of images in a motion picture from a CCD camera
