Abstract :
An application of a computer aided tool, called the Petri Net Synthesis Tool (PNST), for performance analysis and comparison of Petri net synthesis methods for automated manufacturing systems is presented. Three synthesis theories for manufacturing are experimented. The performance data generated by the tool show that the structure-based method by Krogh and Beck (1986) and the behavior-based technique by Suzuki and Murata (1983) perform quite well in executing the rules. Both methods are better than the reachability tree method with a time ratio from 1:10 to 1:100 approximately. The hybrid method by Zhou and DiCesare (1992) performs poorly in most cases and takes even more time than the reachability tree method does
