  • Abstract
In the paper, a topology-independent adaptive resource reservation scheme based on movement history of mobile node (MN) is proposed to provide quality-of-service (QoS) guarantee for future multimedia-oriented wireless mobile IP services. The existing resource reservation schemes for MN make much redundant reservation, and aren´t flexible and reliable under variable bandwidth wireless environment. Three ways are proposed to solve these flaws by our scheme: first, resource is reserved in MN´s most probable movement directions by learning the true movement history of MN; second, the reserved resource is adaptively adjusted based on ongoing session´s request and the current available network bandwidth; third, subnet resident time is considered to avoid unnecessary network resource occupancy. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is independent of network topology and gives no any assumption on subnet shape. The performance analysis has shown that proposed scheme outperforms existing schemes with much less reservation range and higher resource utilization efficiency.
