Abstract :
Following the introduction of the new energy laws 2244/94 and 2773/99 which provide incentives to attract private investments in the renewable energy sources (RES) sector, a large amount of interest for such investments has been experienced in Greece. This paper presents the situation concerning wind energy exploitation, and analyses the technical problems induced by the increased penetration of wind power into the electrical grids. The paper also presents technical solutions proposed by Public Power Corporation to increase wind energy capacity in the southern tip of the island of Evia, rich in wind energy potential.
