Abstract :
Summary form only given. In this paper, we design of a modular, robust, high-current switch for controlling discharge current in the small plasma device. As developed silicon controlled rectifier units are connected in parallel to provide 14 kamp current-carrying capacity. Associated snubber and protection circuits are described in detail. The structural features and the methods of turning on high power thyristors, reverse blocking diode thyristors. The advantages of these devices are described together with a description of the performance achieved by the various devices. All of these switches have been designed for high duty cycle operation. It seems possible have that nanosecond switching times and conduction of tens of thousands of amperes are feasible. Some new interesting a result concerning the plasma dynamics during the operating process in the switch has been found. The design is modular and the switch can be made smaller or large depending on the desired current rating.
