Abstract :
The authors present their research on the operation and utilization of a 60 kW class zinc/chlorine rechargeable battery using a 60 kW module constructed in 1987. Experiments on the electrocatalyst for the electrochemical chlorine evolution reaction show that RuO2 electrocatalyst has a higher stability and chemical reactivity than a RuO2-PdO complex oxide electrocatalyst, so it has been used in the 60 kW class module. The results of an operating test of the battery is presented. Plans to investigate the safety and reliability of battery, the relaxation of its operating conditions, the improvement of its total energy efficiency, and the operation of its battery system and invertor, together with laboratory experiments to increase battery energy efficiency, are discussed
